Myrtle Parkrun

We are proud to be a Parkrun Practice, supporting the Myrtle Parkrun. And we are keen for you to get involved too!

What is it Park Run?

An organised, weekly, 5km timed run in open areas all over the country, usually parks and green spaces. They are open to everyone, and are safe and easy to take part in.

When is it?

They all start at 9am every Saturday morning. Your local Park Run is in Myrtle Park, Bingley.

Why are Bingley Medical Practice getting involved?

Park Run has launched a new ‘parkrun practice’ initiative with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). Under this initiative, GP Practices across the UK are encouraged to develop close links with their local Park Run to become ‘parkrun practices’. In our case, Myrtle Park!

In the near future we are also planning a ‘Park Run takeover’ where we as a Practice will be volunteering at Myrtle Park. Keep your eye out for updates on the website and in the Practice, and we hope you see lots of you there!

But I don’t want to race!

Park Run is not a race - you can run, jog, walk or just come along and watch! All are welcome.

Why should I get involved?

Current advice is for ALL adults to get at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity or 75 minutes of high intensity activity per week – and just 10 additional minutes can make a real difference, reducing the impact of the chronic health conditions GPs and their teams see every day. It is also a great way to develop a new social network and make new friends, so it can help to improve mental health as well as physical health.

Will it cost me anything?

No, Park Run is totally free. As you become more involved and regularly attend Park Run you can always become a volunteer at one of the events

How do I get involved?

You register by going to www.parkrun.org.uk where you enter your details and sign-up. You can then print your ‘barcode’ which you bring along to the Park Run (so you can get a time for your run).
